The
counry is not prepared for the implementation of the Basic
Education Curriculum (BEC) this coming school year, Senate
President Pro Tempore Manuel Villar said yesterday as he called
for its review to determine whether it is necessary to overhaul
the public educational system.

Further
adding confusion to this year's school opening, says Villar,
is the national Service Training Program (NSTP) for college
students which is set to replace the Reserve Officers Training
Corps (ROTC). Villar expressed apprehension that the country
may not have enough "competent instructors" to teach
subjects under the NSTP.
The
NSTP will give students the option of choosing from among
Civic Welfare, Literacy Training, and Military Science.
