CADET SECOND LIEUTENANT (2LT)

This is the lowest officer rank. Though in recent times this is given exclusively to 4th Class officers, in the early years of ROTC, it was given to 2nd Class cadets.

In ceremonies, it is referred to as "Kadete Kamagat"

CADET FIRST LIEUTENANT (1LT)

This rank is traditionally given to 3rd Classmen. In the early 60's when officer recruitment concentrated on sophamores, this rank was given to 3rd Class officers who were senior to their peers -- having been made officers in their freshman year (for some by invitation -- such as PMT Corps Commanders).

In later years, when 4th classmen became the standard source of officers, this rank was given to cadets who only became officers in their 2nd year -- and were thus junior to their contemporaries.

This rank is also referred to as "Kadete Pulimagat".

CADET CAPTAIN

Rank assignment policy in the 80's made this rank the lowest possible rank for an Advance ROTC cadet, and the highest rank for a Basic ROTC cadet. However, unlike other ROTC units, the Ateneo regularly had basic officers with this rank -- due primarily to the scarcity of officers. Rarely did an Atenean 2nd Classman wear this rank.

In the early 50's, even 1st Classmen held this rank. In ceremonies, this rank is called "Kadete Magat"

CADET MAJOR

From 1955 to 1957, this was the rank given to the Corps Commander. By the late 80's, this was the standard rank for 2nd Class cadets, who, more often than not, Corps staff positions.

It is also referred to in ceremonies as "Kadete Himagat".

CADET LIEUTENANT COLONEL

This rank was first held by CDT COL GUILLERMO SALCEDO, Corps Commander SY 1957-58. Late 80's Ateneo practice made this the standard rank for all 1st Classmen, and the Corps Executive Officer.

It is also referred to as "Kadete Lakan".

CADET COLONEL

The highest rank in the AdDU-ROTC is also the youngest -- having only been introduced in 1964, with CDT COL EDGARDO DACANAY as its first bearer.

This rank is also called "Kadete Kalakan".
