THE 605th Community Defense Center, 6th RCDG, ARESCOM conducted the Inter Philippine Army Speech Contest provincial elimination round last July 27 at the Pana-ad Park covered court in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.

Dubbed “Leadership Competency in ROTC,” the activity was a part of the ARESCOM’s annual Inter ROTC speech contest.

The winner of the provincial elimination will be qualified to participate in the regional level representing Negros Occidental.

The winner of the regional level will be sent to compete in the national level.

The board of judges consisted of Reserve Major Modesto Sa-onoy, Philippine Army Reserve chairman, with Major Rodolfo Lavadia, PA, CDC commander, and Marlyn Sanogal of the Provincial Information Division as members.

The champion was Julie Ann Luage, BSED student of Carlos Hilado Memorial State College and a basic ROTC cadette who garnered a score of 89.66 percent. She received P500 cash prize and a trophy; Brucemon Boncao, first year BSED student, basic ROTC cadet of West Negros College, 85.66 percent, first runner-up; John Rey Fillone, BSA student of NOAC taking advanced ROTC, 76.33 percent, second runner-up.

The first and second runners-up received P300 cash and P200 cash and a trophy, respectively.

Luage will be sent to Iloilo City on August 10 to compete for the regional elimination round representing Negros Occidental.

The activity was aimed at enhancing the talents and skills of the cadets/cadettes in communication and enabling them to express their feelings and sentiments on the challenging roles of the youth in helping achieve peace and unity in the country.
