CPU ROTC tops reg’l tactical inspection, awards outstanding cadets

For the third time, the CPU ROTC Unit topped the Regional Annual Tactical Inspection conducted recently by the 6th Regional Community Defense Group. It bested other ROTC Units in Western Visayas.

It will be recalled that for the past two years, the CPU ROTC Unit topped the regional inspections and placed 4th and 3rd in 1997 and 1998, respectively in the national level. This year’s awarding ceremony was held on February 27 with Atty. Joshua C. Alim as guest of honor and speaker. The occasion coincided with the Graduation of the ROTC Basic and Advance Course (SY 1998-99) and Turn Over of Command of the Cadet Corps.

Aside from the Plaque of Merit and Streamer awarded to CPU ROTC Unit by Col. Mascara T. Domaub INF (GSC)PA, Group commander, 6RCDG, RESCOM, PA, medals were also given to the following cadet officers: Cdt. Col. Joseph C. Calibang, Leadership; Cdt. Capt. Benneth T. Juanitas, Duty; Cdt. Maj. Richelle M. Clarito, Loyalty and; Cdt.; Maj. Archemar A. Labordo, Efficiency.

Certificates of Merit were also awarded to the 10 outstanding graduates from the ROTC Basic Corps, SY 1998-99. These are Lloyd A. Butiong, Jun Ozbert M. Haguisan, Marbert Francis B. Espino, Maridel R. Ambos, Rainer V. Pareja, Elviro B. Arroyo, Jr., Fernando P. Arce, Kingie leonard B. Lee, Benneth T. Juanitas, Cornelio S. Ebalan.

In recognition of their valuable contribution to the CPU ROTC Unit, the administration awarded Certificate of Appreciation to the following: Joel H. Somosierra, Physical Plant supervisor; Eduardo S. Sonza, Audio Visual supervisor; Candelaria S. Amojedo, Buildings and Grounds Supervisor; Paige K. Huelar, adviser, Corps of Sponsors; Lorelie Joy A. Casidsid, Corps Sponsor and Allyn Grace T. Margarejo, Frietzie S. Inayan, Mary Jhune E. Cadigal, Shaula C. Monares, Gazel C. Servillon, Donna Salvacion S. Artieda, Josie M. Aguirre, Necil M. Capinanes, Jamie Vanesa T. Tumilba, sponsors.

The CPU ROTC has a long history of outstanding achievements. It topped twice the National Tactical Inspection of the defunct ARESCOM (SY 1978-79; 1980-81). For nine times, the Unit placed first in the whole Visayas Annual Tactical Test and Evaluation (SY 1958-59;60-61;62-66;68-69;77-78;80-81).

Headed by Cdt. Col. Joseph C. Calibang, this year’s officers of CPU ROTC Unit are as follows: Cdt. LTCs Dick Andre A. Robles, Jodymar A. Mendez, Ruel Sumagpao, Brigade Ex-O, 1st BN Commander and 2nd BN Commander, respectively; Cdt. Captains Archemar A. Labordo, Richelle M. Clarito, Allen John A. Boteja, Antonio Francis de la Gente, Symrtm L. Crasco and Mark Anthony S. Gardose, company commanders.

LTC. Fernando G. Rosas , INF (GSC) PA, is the newly designated CPU ROTC commandant. The other army officers responsible for the success of the unit are Capt. Chito A. Pugal and 1st Lt. Herman T. Dollete, asst. commandants; Capt. Bartolome T. Hudierez, operations officer; Tsg. Arnold V. Catamin, training NCO, 2Lt. Arnulfo H. Bolido, Tac-O; Sgt. Valentino Jarabejo, Sgt. Ceasar M. Baldoza, Msg. Dick T. Hudierez and Msg. Rodrigo O. Molina Tac-NCO.
