Mapua ROTC Unit reaps citation

Among twenty-five ROTC (Reserved Officers Training Course) units in the National Capital Region (NCR), the Mapua ROTC unit emerged as the top and was chosen as this year’s Best ROTC Unit.

The citation given by the National Capital Region Community Defense Group (NCRCDG), headed by Col. Ernie A. Amboy, group commander, was conferred in line with the forthcoming 24th Reservist Week celebration to be held on September at Cavite, where the group will compete with other regional winners for the National level.

The ROTC unit was adjudged best based on its harmonious relationship with its host school and its accomplishments including the Civil Welfare Training Program and the Civil Military Operations which have shown active participation in blood donation and charity programs.

According to C/1LT Gerald Abecilla and C/MAJ Eli Abraham Ferrer, “We were really amazed that we were chosen despite the fact that we have held our training late. With that, we would like to thank the Model Battalion, Medics, MP, shooting team, the basic cadets of Batch 2002-2003 and all those who participated in the annual tactical inspection.”

As of press time, the Department of Military Science and Training (DMST) has been improving its program of instruction for the ROTC. Lessened drills and ceremonies and more classroom lectures and enhancement training will now be implemented. Outdoor activities to familiarize students with the military history and setting, like tours and visits to different Military Museums, Philippine Navy quarters and camps are now part of the renewed ROTC program.
