SLU-ROTC Tops Summer Cadre Training

Amid calls for the abolition of the Reserve Officer Training Course, the Armed Forces of the Philippines thru the Air Force held a Summer Cadre Training (in AS23) at the Air Reserve Command Headquarters, Air Force City Clarkfield, Pampanga, last April 1 to May 30, 2001.

The annual event, which serves as a training ground for ROTC officers, is participated by six Air Reserve Centers from all over the Philippines. This year SLU-ROTC cadet/cadette officers bested their contemporaries from the fifty-four schools in the country offering Air Science in ROTC. SLU's Cdt. 1Cl McRyan Capua was awarded Cadet of the Year. While seven more officers topped in Military Proficiency and Academics. They are (in order of merit): (#2) Cdt. 2Cl Perceival Bugnosen; (#3) Cdt. 2Cl Arjil Joseph; (#6) Cdt. 2Cl Eddie As-il; (#9) Cdt. 2Cl Brainald Wadwadan; and, (#10) Cdt. 2Cl Aladdin Beniking. In related activities, Cdt. 2Cl Dexter Tayab placed first in Weapons (Assembly and Disassembly) Training. Cdt. 2Cl Orlando Bagto also garnered first in Firing. Cdt. 2Cls Eddie As-il, Ferdinand Macopia, Wilcher Pantaleon, and Cdt. 1Cl Victory Oyang-o won first, second, fourth, and seventh place, respectively in the 10-km. run. Cdt. 2Cl Jordahne Sumakong earned the Best Speaker Award.
