UP Vanguard – a homecoming

Taken from: http://www.mb.com.ph, March 2, 2003

The University of the Philippines Vanguard, Inc., the alumni association of ROTC officers of the State University, is holding a grand nostalgic fashion show entitled “Fashion in Review” on Friday, March 21, at The Manila Polo Club.

The reunion-show, which will bring together luminaries in government, military business and media, is directed by renowned megman Fritz Ynfante. Uniforms donned by UP ROTC cadet officers and sponsors from the 1930s up to the present will be recreated by Bb. Pilipinas Universe beauty and former UP ROTC sponsor Vida Doria.

Emcees are UP Vanguard member, businessman Ted Javier and former DOTC Secretary Josefina Trinidad Lichauco, former ROTC sponsor, who will also model.

Walking on the fashion ramp will be other former UP ROTC sponsors, including Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, veteran actress Boots Anson-Roa, former Quezon City Vice Mayor Connie Angeles, beauty queen-turned-activist Nelia Sancho, Philippine Star lifestyle editor Millet Martinez-Mananquil, TV host Chichi Fajardo-Robles, and former Presidential Management Staff Lenny Vasquez-De Jesus.

They will be joined by other women civic and business leaders who were once UP ROTC sponsors, including Ayala executive Marivic Añonuevo, businesswoman Rebecca Ventura Trinidad and Eloisa Altes Romero.

The UP ROTC male uniforms will be modeled by former cadet officers, including Cagayan Governor Ed Lara, former Philippine Army Chief Jaime De los Santos, former DENR Secretary Heherson “Sonny” Alvarez, former Agrarian Reform Secretary Horacio “Boy” Morales, former Southern Philippines Command Chief Joe Magno, retired General Bienvenido Castro, DND Spokesman Executive Officer National Disaster Coordinating Council and Administration of Civil Defense General Mel Rosales, lawyer Sigfried Fortun, stockmarket spokesman Astro Del Castillo, Local Governments Undersecretary Ed Soliman, businessman Sonny Ventura and Ayala executive Mark Javier.

The fashions and passions of each decade, from the 1930s to the new millennium, will be depicted on the ramp. Unforgettable events, trends and personalities of each decade will be recreated on stage.

UP Vanguard, Inc. chairman Edwin Fernandez said the show is being presented to raise funds for UP Vanguard’s various projects benefiting UP students. The show will be followed by dancing, with the 1960s hit band Moonstrucks providing the ballroom dance music.
