Receive Awards on Recognition Day

Twenty-three
personnel from the Philippine Army, ROTC units and
civilian sectors received various awards during Recognition
Day held today, March 18 at Fort Bonifacio, Makati
City. The celebration is part of the 105th PA anniversary
this coming March 22.

Lt.
Col. Erik Miguel R. Espina, an Army reservist, also
received the Outstanding Achievement Medal for extraordinary
and distinguished achievement for having conceived
and pioneered the creation of the first ever reservist
badge, the "Reservist Lapu-lapu Katapatan Badge".
ROTC Cadet Andrew Maling,
a member of the UST ROTC Unit was awarded the Bronze
Cross Medal for acts of heroism during a hold-up incident
at the overpass along Espana Manila on March 11, 2001.
Recipients
of the Military Merit Medals were: TSgt Alex B. Caritativo
of 16th Intelligence and Security Unit and Sgt Maximo
G. Lorenzana of 68th Infantry Battalion. The Army's
8th Infantry Battalion, 4ID was named PA Battalion
of the Year for Administration; 1st Scout Ranger Battalion
as PA Battalion of the Year for Operations; and the
61st Infantry Battalion, 3ID as PA Battalion of the
Year for Civil-Military Operations.
Awardees
of the Command Plaque were the following: Col. Diosdado
D. Tabamo, Commanding Officer of the Communication
Electronics and Information System Service (CEISS);
Capt. Santiago B. Cane Jr. of 10 RCDG - Best PA Reserve
Officer for 2001; Sgt. Lenilo R. Redoblador of 10
RCDG- Best PA Reserve Enlisted Personnel for 2001;
Misamis Occidental Electric Cooperative of 9th RCDG
- PA Affiliated Reserve Unit; Cadet Col. Al-Rashid
M. Salipada of 12 RCDG - Best Female ROTC Cadet for
2001; Cadette Capt. Chonaliza L. Gavina of 2RCDG -
Best Female ROTC Cadette for 2001; Mrs. Rosana R.
Olarte of 4th Infantry Division - Model PA Civilian
Supervisor for 2001; Mrs. Lydia C. Dangaran of FBGH
- Model PA Civilian Employee for 2001; CAA Apolinario
N. Laurzano of 7th Tarlac CAA Company - Best CAA for
2001; Sibul CAA Detachment of 9th Bataan CAA Company
- for being the longest serving para-military facility
in Western Luzon; and Maj. Felipe Manlapaz (Ret) -
for his unselfish contributions to the PA Contingent
in the recently concluded 11th ASEAN Armies Rifle
Meet 2001.
Other
recipient of the PA Command Plaque include Assistant
Secretary Salvador Pleyto of the Department of Public
Works and Highways (DPWH) in grateful appreciation
to his invaluable assistance to the Philippine Army
in construction and improvement of infrastructure
facilities of 51st Engineer Brigade; and Ms. Regina
L. Lopez, managing director of the ABS-CBN Foundation,
Inc. in grateful appreciation for her invaluable work
in protecting the natural resources particularly,
the La Mesa Dam Watershed Area through Bantay Kalikasan,
ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc.
