Man wrapped in carpet found in river By
Christian V. Esguerra Inquirer News Service
POLICE yesterday found the decomposing body of a man wrapped in a
carpet, his head wrapped entirely with tape, floating in the Pasig
River just under the Jones Bridge.
Police said the
victim was 5-foot-8 tall and probably in his 40s. The body was
already decomposing when workers in the area found it at about 9
a.m. yesterday.
The body was
wrapped in a brown carpet, which made it hard for employees of Tres
Amigos Funeral to pull it to dry ground, according to case
investigator SPO1 Steve Casimiro of the Western Police District
Homicide Division.
When
investigators unrolled the carpet, they saw the man’s body already
peeling, his fair skin beginning to meld with his white polo shirt,
denim pants, white underwear, and black high-cut shoes, police
said.
Casimiro said
the body could have been floating in the river for at least two days
already.
The man’s head
was covered with gray packaging tape, while his hands and feet were
bound with black shoelaces, police said.
Initial
examination of the body showed no signs of external injury, police
said. The man, with his head wrapped in tape, could have died of
suffocation, they added. |
