THE National Bureau of Investigation
(NBI) yesterday arrested two suspects in the abduction and
murder of a UST engineering student who exposed the alleged
anomalies in the ROTC program of the university.
Brothers Jeffrey and Genesis Binagatan,
staff sergeants of the UST ROTC, were arrested on Cavite cor.
Elias streets, Sta. Cruz, Manila at around 11 a.m.
They were tagged as suspects in the murder
of Mark Welson Chua, 18, who was found floating at the back of
the Bureau of Immigration building near Maestranza compound,
Intramuros, Manila.
A red carpet was wrapped around Mark’s body
when he was found and his hands were tied behind his back with
a nylon cord.
Chua’s relatives recognized the decomposing
body after a dog tag bearing the victim’s body was
recovered.
The victim’s father, Welson Sr. said the
Manila policemen failed to determine the motives of the
suspects in murdering his son so he asked the NBI’s
assistance.
Before he was reported missing, the victim
exposed in the campus newspaper, The Varsitarian the alleged
malpractices and corruption of several UST ROTC officials,
including the ROTC commandant, Army Maj. Demy Tejares.
Chua’s exposé resulted in the relief of
Tejares and several other ROTC officials.
The two suspects are now under interrogation
in the NBI headquarters. |
